Cheri Sigmon

DoD Insider Threat, Cyber Portfolio Manager

Cheri is a Virtual CISO (vCISO) and cybersecurity consultant with a background in financial
services, military, and government security. Cheri assesses a diverse array of information security risks, vulnerabilities, attack surfaces, incident response and business continuity plans, data leaks and breach situations.

Leveraging over 20 years of experience in the fields of leadership, public service, information and cybersecurity, financial services risk assessments, consulting, software lifecycle and cyber workforce development, Cheri is a straight talker. She began her career as an officer in the United States Air Force, where she served at multiple overseas and stateside locations. As a civilian, Cheri served as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), Policy, Defense Technology Security Administration (DTSA). As DTSAb s CISO and Deputy CIO, Cherib s primary roles were to secure and ensure the availability of sensitive military networks and communications, and export control of American technology. From 2015-2016, Cheri supported the Joint Staff – J6. From 2006-2008 Cheri served as the J6 Information Assurance Manager at U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), Joint Task Force b  Global Network Operations (JTF-GNO), the predecessor to U.S. Cyber Command.

Other key IT positions include CISO at OSD Public Affairs, Defense Media Activity; HQ Air Combat Command A6, Langley AFB, VA; and U.S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM)/J9 b  Joint Experimentation.

Cheri is a member of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) and has served on the Ethics Committee of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) International. A native of York, SC, she holds an undergraduate degree from Clemson University and a Masterb s degree from Webster University.

Cheri supports Wounded Warriors, military veterans of all generations, and their families in multiple ways, including facilitating career transitions into the field of Cybersecurity and sponsoring “Safe Harbor Retreat Centers” for veterans globally. Cheri also loves dogs, family, and Carrie Underwood.
